Color Line in U.S. History, The
Course Description
This class explores the several hundred-year tension in North America between dominant--white, Euro-American, protestant, middle classes and radical Black, Chicano, and Indigenous challenges, and the conflicts and collaborations that have emerged from those tensions. We will read the words of the social theorists and activists who have sought racial justice throughout the history of the U.S., including slave and Indigenous revolts, Civil Rights, Black Power, and the recent challenge to the hegemonic story of African American history brought by the 1619 Project.
