Grant Writing & Nonprofit Essentials
Course Description
Through this class, we will discuss philanthropy and the structures of non-profit enterprises. We will explore the ways philanthropies and nonprofits set priorities, how nonprofit leaders cultivate donor relationships, and how to envision a project that is competitive in the funding arena. We will also explore new and nontraditional funding structures, including social business, social entrepreneurship, and grassroots fundraising strategies. Core concepts of the course will include the essentials of visioning, researching, writing, obtaining, and maintaining grants. Outside of nonprofits and philanthropic organizations, this course will explore the role that other financial models can play in social and environmental justice funding. These models include for-profit enterprises, small donor structures, and cooperative structures.
