Lifespan Development: A Cultural Approac

College

RDP

Course Description

In this course students explore how our mutually constitutive interactions with our worlds shapes our development throughout our lifespan. Students engage with theories that address biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that influence development, mental processes, and behaviors during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood through the end of life. Students critically reflect on their own developmental trajectory with reference to child rearing, formal schooling, and workplace practices in different regions of the world. This course also promotes discussion of the ways in which these sociocultural practices reflect and promote particular understandings of the person, as well as ideals, roles, expectations, societal institutions, and power dynamics.
