Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides students with an introduction to psychopathology (psychological challenges/disorders), as well as approaches to supporting psychological health and wellness. An integrative approach that recognizes the interaction of biological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural factors. Topics covered include basic concepts and definitions, historical and cultural perspectives, stigmas, different theoretical models and interpretations, and assessment/diagnosis of psychological challenges associated with distress or impairment (including use of the DSM-5-TR). Critical, cultural, legal, and ethical issues relating to research, diagnostic categories, assessment, and treatment will be discussed throughout the course.SPECIAL NOTES:
