Course Description

The study of urbanization has become crucial to understanding processes of uneven development, social decision-making, and struggles for liberation and sustainability. Contemporary globalization has reconfigured landscapes of power, in part, through the emergence of global cities such as Los Angeles, Rio De Janeiro, and Kolkata. This course explores themes of justice, home, and community through case studies highlighting the work of community organizing. This course exposes students to major questions and debates in the interdisciplinary and applied study of urbanization and globalization with an emphasis on their relevance to building social movements.
