This highly practical and experiential course will provide an opportunity for students to begin developing their community organizing toolbox. Students will learn about the importance of power-building to the work of community organizing and they will explore, analyze, and assess the tools used by community organizers in campaign work. In this course students will explore various models of community organizing and they will study the work of community organizers through various campaigns. Students will leave this course understanding the distinct and crucial role that community organizers play in building the power of historically marginalized communities and how that power is built.
